The incident happened near Wat Thep Leela pier, which saw many customers try to jump onto the pier when the engine exploded. The incident took place near Pratunam in Klong Saenseap, There are some videos out there which show the boat with black smoke all over it.

On the 5th and 6th march the boat company - Family Transport Co - that provided this taxi service, had been suspended. There was an investigation into the incident which proved the explosion came from a gas leak (from the engine). This has given the government sufficient grounds to close this company down (for a short time at least). They currently have 72 vessels and none of them are allowed to be used as water taxi's.

Prime Minister Concern

The Prime Minister has voiced his concerns over the incident and has urged all related authorities to prevent similar incidents by taking precautionary measures and to ensure that all public vehicles are in good condition. - Samui Times
