Norwegian Couple Nearly Die In Sinking Mud - Thai News

KRABI inThailand - A  fisherman has been hailed as a  hero because he came to the rescue and saved a couple from Norway who had become stuck in mud in Krabi River.

The actions of Mr Chat Ubonchinda were caught on camera.

The footage has been uploaded onto youtube  and has been viewed over 1.5 million times. The drama unfolded on Friday morning when the unnamed Norwegian couple had became stuck in waist high mud when taking photographs of Krabi River.
Mr Ubonchinda who was out in his fishing boat at the time, saw the couple get into difficulty and decided to go their rescue, reports Khaosod.
In the footage, Mr Ubonchinda can be seen first moving all of the couple’s photography equipment to safe ground, before returning to try and pull the couple out of the mud. I would have taken the couple and then the equipment personally, I guessed he figured if they drowned he could make a few pennies off selling the camera equipment. Mr Ubonchinda risks his own well being by laying face down in the mud, allowing the couple to use his body to walk over to free themselves. I cannot think of anyone with this much kindness, Thai's are simply the best. After the couple were able to get free, Mr Unbonchinda went to his boat and was on his way.
The couple have tried to contact their rescuer to show their thanks. However, Mr Unbonchinda told reporters he did not want anything in return for his actions. - associated press

Ferry sinks in Thailand BREAKING NEWS - 08/042015

KRABI: A fire broke out on the ferry Ao Nang Princess 5 this afternoon (April 8), about two kilometres from Nopparatthara Beach in Ao Nang.

Almost all the 107 passengers are reported to have been rescued by nearby boats and the Marine police. There were two exceptions – one person dead and a 12-year-old girl who is missing.
Divers are now looking to see if they can find the girl.

The fire broke out at 3:30 pm in the ferry, which belongs to Ao Nang Travel Tour Co.
Carrying 117 passengers – 107 adults and 10 children – the ferry reportedly left Koh Phi Phi and was heading for Nopparatthara Beach near Ao Nang when the fire broke out near Koh Met.

Krabi Marine Police, Krabi Marine Office, Nopparathara Park officers and 10 fishing and speed boats rushed to the scene and rescued passengers, taking them to Ao Nang, where rescue workers were waiting to ferry anyone injured to hospital.

In the event, none of those who were brought ashore were injured.

The skipper of the ferry, Capt Wirat, said there was an explosion in the engine room, after which he told passengers to put on life jackets. Other boats were on the scene fast, he said, and passengers were able to step from the burning ferry onto the other boats.

The fire burned the ferry to the waterline, after which it sank.

Officials are still checking the passenger lists to identify the missing girl and the dead person.

Cheap Hotel Krabi Thailand

Cheap Hotels - Krabi, Thailand

I arrived in Krabi, which is near Railay beach, and booking my hotel early was the right choice as it was a very cheap hotel.

My hotel was a guest house based in the town center of Krabi. Krabi is a small quaint town and not so busy it's a place where people go to escape the tourism and parties for a couple of days.

It's also has a lot of cheap hotels.

The staff at the guest house were all Thai and spoke very good English. The guest house rooms are based in 2 places; Good Dream 1 is where the reception is based, they also have a restaurant here which serves western food as well as Thai. They have computers free for guests to use (again so cheap :). I was over at Good Dream 2, which was over the road.

The room itself was great, thick walls, thick mattress and thick guest of course. And the bed was actually raised off the floor. Floor was tiled which meant the room was extra cool and of course I had a fan!!!

They have a movie night every night at 7pm over at the restaurant - I managed to watch Spiderman, Karl Pilkington in Bangkok and Hangover 2, and an awful lot of friends!!

Overall this was good value for money 250baht (£5) per night. The staff do the best they can for you, try to get your excursions cheap and are very helpful. This place is also run by an ex-backper and he understands what the customers need.

Didn't meet anyone here but heading too Phuket soon where I'll stay in a dormitory!!!

From Bangkok to Krabi - Escaping the madness...

How To Travel From Bangkok (Bkk) To Krabi

On the 7th day in Bangkok, the time had arrived, south Thailand was imminent. I packed my bags, off loaded some jumpers, and waited at my guest house until 5pm. It was time to go South, I was so happy to be leaving the incredibly busy city of Bangkok with a population of over 10 million! I had a good time in Bangkok met some good people, who were also heading in different directions, but my time here was done.

A mini bus collected me from my hotel and took me, along with others, to a roundabout to wait for the big coach. The coach pulled up and was massive and colourful, it was also the same inside. The journey was to take around 18 hours with one main stop for a break.

The seats and space were quite good and it had air-con. I also had a seat at the front with loads of leg space. I was sat with a Kiwi who told me of his adventure's. It was an okay journey. I had to put the blanket they provided us over my head to sleep!

Our last transfer was in the middle of the country side - and I could see dogs everywhere and the owners of the building at this stop had a three legged dog!!! There were two dogs who decided when someone on a scooter drove past, that they would chase them. The coach driver was a very angry character always moaning at people, he has a big colourful bus, whats there to moan about!

Eventually I arrived at my new guest house after haggling with another taxi driver, managed to get him down around 80 baht! I'll put up more information about this guest house soon, what i'll say for now is I have 2 big pillows which is great!

Krabi town is worlds apart from Bangkok, no Tuk-Tuk drivers - yippppeeeeee, not tonnes of food stools yipeeee and less pollution. I'm so glad to have arrived down South.
